‘Desperate Housewives’ Finale: Could Sunday Night Series Finish on Feminist Note?

After eight seasons, the quirky quartet of  “Desperate Housewives” — Lynette, Bree, Susan, and Gaby — are about to fade into television history. Fans of the show wonder how this small-screen fable of four archetypal females in the new millennium will end.

A fairy tale finale would resemble the “Stepford Wives,” with each house frau firmly hitched to a handsome man. . . .

But what if the writers of the show decide to take a more feminist approach for the show’s final episode? Here is my guess on how a Ms. Magazine version of “Desperate Housewives” might go:

Lynette Scavo: After being tormented for years by the immature Tom, a man who can’t even manage to remember his wife likes thin-crust pizza, Lynette finally realizes she is better off without . . . .
